Celebrity Corner: John Brown

Is More Better

John Brown is the host of the non traditional, syndicated morning news TV show, “The Daily
Buzz.” It’s presently in 140 cities nationally. Interestingly, the number of cities are increasing and so are his golf scores – and he is happy about both situations.

John is satisfied shooting higher than the low to middle 70’s that he was posting a few years ago because now golf is more fun. “I played on the golf team in college in Missouri,” says John Brown, “but I played my best golf after moving to Miami where I played about 5 days a week when working at a sports radio station. The problem was that playing that often made me very competitive. Golf was like work. Now I look at the game from a completely different perspective. I enjoy the camaraderie, the laughs, the surroundings, the challenge against nature and the opportunity to think clearly. I really love being on
a golf course now.”

In the 1980’s golf course conditions were not pristine in John’s hometown near of Jefferson City, Missouri. In fact, when he started playing at 13 years old, the local course had sand greens. “After chipping up to the ‘green’ there was a rope attached to the flag to measure your distance from the hole. Once that was determined, you put your ball on a relatively level area from that same distance and took the back of the rake to smooth a path in the sand from your ball to the hole.” Basketball was John’s #1 sport and judging from the conditions of the ‘greens – reminiscent of those from the late 1800’s through the
early 1900’s – it’s easy to understand why.

When asked who he would like to play golf with if he had the opportunity to choose a fantasy foursome, he mentioned just one person. “My father passed away a few years ago and we had so many laughs. It would be great to have the opportunity to light up a cigar, get in the golf cart and spend just one more day together on the golf course. One of my regrets is that I didn’t appreciate those times with him as much as I could have while it was happening. If I could play golf with anyone – by far – it would be with my dad.” John is married.

His wife Teresa is a therapist, which likely contributes his great attitude towards golf. They have a daughter, Lauren, who he was pushing on a swing while speaking on his cell phone during this interview. And John probably only partially regrets taking off “a few years” before attending Medical School after majoring in biology and chemistry in college. Those ‘few years’ led to spending his time as a “rarely working” model and actor, starting at the bottom and working his way up at a sports radio station,
hosting a radio news program and now the host of “The Daily Buzz.”

“The Daily Buzz” can be seen Mon. – Fri. from 6-9AM on the “WB network in the Orlando area and on “UPN” in Tampa.
